WORD:
Nicholas Christopher launches ‘The Bestiary,’ to read in NYC
Author Nicholas Christopher
has
his fifth novel, ‘The Bestiary,’ launching on July 3 at bookstores
nationwide, publisher The Dial Press announced. The Bestiary is a
lyrical story about a young Vietnam vet in search of a long-lost book
detailing the animals left off Noah’s Arc, a journey that takes him
from the tenements of New York to the ancient libraries of Europe.
Nicholas spent
five years visiting libraries across the US and traveling to locales
such Venice, Paris, Hawaii to prepare for the writing of this ambitious
novel. In it, his protagonist Xeno Atlas embarks on a parallel search
for his father hoping to find answers to his personal history, while
also finding The Caravan Bestiary, and a piece of mankind’s collective
history.
The Bestiary comes after Nicholas’ previous novels ‘Veronica,’ ‘A Trip
to the Stars,’ ‘Franklin Flyer,’ and ‘The Soloist.’ After breezing
through his latest novel, we’d say it could be his most ambitious work
to date, except he’s also written eight volumes of poetry including -
get this - two novellas written in
verse.
Nicholas, a New York City resident who teaches at Columbia University,
has at least two readings planned this month in NYC to support The
Bestiary:
Thursday, July 12th at 7
PM at the McNally Robinson Bookstore, located at 52 Prince Street.
Thursday, July 26th at 7
PM at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Chelsea, located at 675 Sixth
Avenue at 22nd Street.
