WORD:
Dennis Cooper kicks of Word for Word reading series in NYC
Edited Press Release
At New York City's Bryant Park Reading Room, acclaimed writer Dennis Cooper makes a rare
appearance to talk with Tony O’Neill
(formerly with the Brian Jones
Massacre)
about his new short story collection "Ugly Man" (Harper Perennial) that
plumbs veins of dark humor amid the sex and gore his fans have come to
expect. Other authors holding discussions and readings through June
include Christopher Buckley, Simon Van Booy and Monica Ali.
Cooper, who has
been called "the last literary outlaw in mainstream American fiction,"
kicks off
a series of free outdoor readings taking place during May and June at
New York City's Bryant Park Reading Room. All of the events are free to
the public.
Dennis Cooper is the author of the George Miles Cycle, an
interconnected sequence of five novels that includes Closer, Frisk,
Try, Guide, and Period. His post-George Miles Cycle novels include My
Loose Thread, The Sluts, which won France's Prix Sade and the 2005
Lambda Literary Award for Best Men's Fiction, and his most recent work,
the highly acclaimed God, Jr. He divides his time between Los Angeles
and Paris.
Location: The Bryant Park Reading Room located on the 42nd Street side
of the park - under the trees - between the back of the NYPL & 6th
Avenue. Look for the burgundy and white umbrellas. Bryant Park
