BASS: Late nights return as Photek, UFO! headline April Fools day; Noodle Factory party stomped

As predicted weeks ago, drum & bass continues to take front stage at San Francisco club 1015 Folsom. Heavyweight DJs Photek of Metalheadz UK and Eklektic’s UFO! will headline a rugged lineup on Friday, April 1, at the Straight Up Drum & Bass In Your Face party. Meanwhile, the Noodle Factory in Oakland held a rave this past Saturday, on Mar. 19.

At the 1015 party, Groundscore SF presents the April Fools DNB event, which will also feature Gridlock, Audio Angel and MC Duh. Since the event is put together by the former organizers of Eklektic you can expect a grimy urban setting in the 1015 “bassment,” while longtime Oakland-based DNB talent UFO! will probably try to blow out 1015’s indestructible speakers.

Breakbeat DJs will also bring the bass on the same night at 1015. Get Freaky says its headliners include Tayo, Deekline and Baobinga, who are all from the UK. The party runs from 10 pm until “afterhours” which is another word for very late.

This past Saturday, the Noodle Factory hosted an all-ages party with 20-something DJs in three rooms in West Oakland. Featured DJs - Cisko Kid, El Juan Hubbard, D3cibot, and Savage Rhythm just to name a few - represented techno, dancehall, grime, experimental and breakbeats.

The S.P.A.Z. co-op brought their signature dancing crew on stilts, adding to a somewhat surreal environment. Meanwhile, they had a sushi bar in one of the rooms and artwork from various local artists were displayed throughout the venue. We hear that after the party let out around 6am on Sunday, some unsleepy folks hit Lois the Pie Queen for some biscuits and gravy.
