BASS:
Electronic music fans gear up for Saturday’s LoveParade SF
DJs, party promoters and electronic music fans are gearing up for
Saturday’s LoveParade SF,
where two dozen floats boasting the best of Drum & Bass, Trance,
House, Breakbeats and Electro will parade down Market Street. From
there, the party continues all night. Here’s details you’ll need for a
fun-filled day.
LoveParade SF begins at Embarcadero 1 on Market Street beginning at 1
pm and will end at the Civic Center (next to City Hall), where DJ
floats range from techno with Skills/Spundae to Bay Area Drum &
Bass and chill out OM Records. DJs will churn out beats until 9 pm,
when afterparties will take place at several venues across San
Francisco.
At the Bill
Graham Civic Center, heavyweight talent including Goldie and DJ Dan will spin at the "the
official" LoveParade afterparty hosted by Skillz. The event has three
stages showcasing Drum & Bass, Techno and House music from 9 pm to
4 am.
Carl Cox, Bad Boy Bill, Kyau vs.
Albert, and Gianni & Taj
will DJ house and techno sets. D&B talent such as Shy FX, Bicolas and Pendulum will support Goldie on
stage 3. No fewer than five MCs will hold down the mic. Expect
shout-outs from Johnny Red, MC Dino,
Audio Angel, MC Duh and MC
Colonel.
This 18-and-over event has a $40 cover with $80 VIP tickets also
available. The Bill Graham Civic Center is at 99 Grove Street.
Studio Z, at 314 11th Street, will host two rooms of Drum & Bass
from 10 pm to 4am. The 21-and-over show has just a $5 cover. Lineup
includes Gridlok, Juju and
others.
The Breakbeat scene including DJs from around the globe will gather at
a two-floor "secret location" in San Francisco after LoveParade closes
down, from 9 pm to 6 am. DJs on tap include Future Funk Squad vs. High Eight
from the UK, Myagi vs. Greg J
from Toronto, and J-Break from
Florida in the downstairs main room. Odeed
-- who on Wednesday was a co-guest with WORD’N’BASS.com Editor BPM Smith at NetAmp.com -- will tag
team a set with Wish, while Drag’nfly, Bam vs. Marco and M.O.D. will represent California in
the upstairs room.
For the Love of Breaks is a 21-and-over event and is hosted by Bay Area
Breaks. Pre-sale tickets are available at www.groovetickets.com, at the
Breaks float for $15, or $20 at the door. Call 415-267-1800 for the
event’s location.
If you want to take a detour from heavy bass for a couple hours, The
Lower Haight (roughly from Fillmore St. to Divisadero) is having its
first annual Art Crawl from 6
pm to 9 pm. The neighborhood’s bars, clubs, cafes and galleries will
have a variety of simultaneous events including a fashion show, various
trunk shows, music, free drinks and food.
Additional LoveParade SF afterparties will be added through Saturday
depending on announcements. Party promoters can announce their events
by e-mailing editor@wordnbass.com.
Sponsors of the 2005 LoveParade S.F. include Friendster.com,
InGrooves.com, SF Weekly, DJmixed.com, Eventvibe.com and Remix
Magazine. Please designate a driver if you plan on partying hard, like
some 75,000 people expect to.
