WORD: Hilary Swank trainer Hector Roca to juggle writing, training pro boxers

Professional boxing trainer Hector Roca has cashed in on his ever-growing fame since preparing actress Hilary Swank for her role in hit film Million Dollar Baby, landing a cool six figures to write a health and fitness book.

According to Publishers Lunch, Roca's yet-to-be-written book is titled The Gleason’s Gym Total Body Workout: A four-week Head-to-Toe Makeover. Agents Barbara Lowenstein and Eileen Cope of Lowenstein-Yost jointly brokered the deal. Touchstone Fireside will reportedly publish Rocca's book.

Roca, a native of Panama, is best known in professional boxing circles as the former trainer of world champion Arturo Gatti. Among celebrities, he has tutored Wesley Snipes and Swank, with the commercial success of Million Dollar Baby -- and Swank's mention of Rocca during her Oscars award speech -- launched him into mainstream fame.

Don’t expect Roca to trade in boxing mitts for a pen, though. He will most likely use a co-writer for the untitled memoir and has meanwhile continued to train fighters at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York City.

During the same week that Roca landed the publishing deal, he guided undefeated welterweight Dmitriy Salita at a fight card in New York City, who improved his record to 21-0 with a second-round knockout victory. Earlier this month, Roca helped former New York Golden Gloves champion Jorge Teron to a successful professional debut on Mar. 3.
