The Talbot Fortune Agency
establishes new literary partnership
In New York, The John Talbot Agency changed its name to The Talbot
Fortune Agency, LLC after former Berkeley Publishing Group executive
editor Gail Fortune joined as
a partner, according to the company. The partnership, which was
effective April 4, strengthens its marketing and editorial offerings.
“Gail brings fresh editorial and marketing savvy to the company, and
enlarges our focus to include romance and new areas in narrative
nonfiction and history,” agency founder John Talbot told WORD’N’BASS.com.
The Talbot Fortune Agency will continue to focus on literary fiction,
narrative nonfiction, and women's fiction. Among Fortune’s clients are
authors Dorothea Benton Frank
and Lynn Kurland, whose books
Fortune reportedly handled while at Berkeley.
“We both carry full client lists but are always open to exceptional new
writers and projects,” said Talbot of his and Fortune’s author stable.
His recent sales include On the Heels
of Freedom by Joyce Hollyday,
to Crossroad Publishing, and an untitled narrative nonfiction book by
Golden Globe-winning actress Diane
Ladd, to Hay House.
Prior to becoming an agent, Talbot served as a senior editor at Putnam
Berkley Group, where he worked with authors including Tom Clancy, W.E.B. Griffin and Tom Perrotta, among others. He
founded The John Talbot Agency in 1998.
